The Clinical Test for Gingival Subsiding Effect by Use of Electric Gingival Stimulator

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: Gingival stimulator is one of the auxiliary oral hygiene devices, in order to develop for gingival subsiding effect for early stage of gingivitis, by stimulating and massage on the gingival tissue after toothbrushing. The aims of the study was to compare the gingival subsiding effect between the use of electric gingival stimulator and hand instrument for the gingival stimulator, as well as to compare with no use of the gingival stimulator, after toothbrushing.
Methods: Thirty adults volunteers were collected after achieving institutional review board certification, and divided them with 3 groups as 10 persons in a group. Electric stimulator was used for 2 times for a minute a day after tooth brushing for the experimental 1 group and hand gingival stimulator was used with the same time for experimental 2 group, otherwise no use for gingival stimulator and only for toothbrushing on control group. Papillary, marginal, and attached gingival index (PMA), modified community periodontal index (CPI) and modified bleeding index (BI) was checked before the test, 1, 2 and 3 weeks’ later, and compared the data with each other groups.
Results: There was different in statistical between 3 groups, as time passes, for PMA, modified CPI, and modified BI (p＜0.05). Experimental group and positive control group had significantly different in statistical between baseline and after 3weeks for PMA, modified CPI and modified BI (p＜0.01).
Conclusion: It was recommended to use the electric gingival stimulator and hand type gingival massager, at least for 3 weeks, to decrease the gingivitis.
